Puppy photos and an update.
They're growing.
They're now a whole 19 weeks old.
We hit a big milestone – I hope.
We have had dry nights for a week.
That makes all of us, but especially the humans, very happy.
We are (that's me and the pups) doing a bit of training every day. I work each of them 5 – 10 minutes, twice daily. They no longer run when they see the training leash come out…. Although Bonnie has taken to flipping on her back and not budging once I attach it.
We're working on that.
I can still lift her into a sit, which she doesn't like, so there's hope.
Yesterday Guapa heeled perfectly but totally forgot how to sit. Bonnie was perfect on all counts.
By perfect I mean that they have the general idea…..
Today, Guapa was doing a good job and Bonnie laid down every time I told her to sit.
I think in another 50 – 100 sessions we might have made some progress.
Maybe.
They both have the 'stay' and 'come' down pat…. On the leash.
Off leash they still totally ignore me unless they want something.
But they do allow me to work each of them without interference from the other.
Also progress.
I think they're starting to lose their baby teeth.
They're still putting everything in their mouths. Fortunately, they've gotten so used to me checking to see what they have that they usually just drop it at my feet.
And it's usually figs.
My herb garden is all in flower which means that there are lots and lots of butterflies.
They now stalk the butterflies…. Then pounce.
So far the score is puppies: 0 / butterflies: 1500.
Two things we have to do some serious work on:
They hate getting into the car. We had a terrible fight on our hands getting them in to go to the vet for their last injections. So we're going to start taking them for rides; then rides with fun walks. We're not going to be able to lift them in much longer.
Guapa is reluctant to be groomed; Bonnie fights it with all she's got. We'll do some 'pretend' grooming every day, then start cutting just one toenail, working up to all the toes on one foot, and so on.
If any one has better suggestions, please leave a comment.
I can't believe how much time they take at the moment…. I know it's important to get them off to a good start.
And I was very pleased when our neighbor came in the front gate this morning and the puppies greeted her frantically, but with all four paws firmly on the ground.
If only I could get them to stop doing cartwheels when I feed them. Poor dears are always starving.
