A few weeks ago our neighbor tried to talk the farmer into doing something about the rabbits.
We were hoping, lily-livered crew that we are, that the farmer would just make them disappear.
They were eating his wheat, after all.
But, I guess they didn’t eat much.
Last week our neighbor pointed out an empty field that I could just glimpse through the trees.
A few days earlier it had been a cornfield, filled with new growth.
I guess bunnies like corn better than they do wheat.
Now, I don’t want to imply that they ate his entire cornfield….. but they did eat rather a lot of it.
So much, in fact, that the next day the farmer and the farmer’s many friends we’re all over the area armed with guns and shovels.
I guess enough is enough.
We told him….
If he would have listened he wouldn’t have been spending today replanting his cornfield, now would he?
Harrumph!
Lest you think that solved the bunnie problem, it didn’t. But when we take our evening walk we now see 3 or 4 rabbits in the field. Two weeks ago we saw 20 or 25.
Not perfect, but definitely an improvement.
Now that you know all about smoking – how about some lovely smoked cod?
In case you don’t know all about smoking – instructions repeated.
The recipe, Lightly Smoked Cod, has been updated, nutrition information added, and re-posted here: Smoked Cod Fillets.

I thought you were going to post a recipe for smoked bunny!
The fish looks beautiful. I’d love to try apple wood! All we can get here is hickory and mesquite. Hickory for me, please. I find mesquite to lend a sour flavour.
We’ve been having cod for weeks on end according to my friend Gorn … actually it just been every third night for maybe 10 days. Two days ago he said no more. We had pizza last night and will have it for breakfast & lunch & dinner for 3 days now. Maybe smoked cod on a pizza 😉 maybe that would make him happy with more cod.
How’s about smoked lapin Katie:D We had a problem with rabbits here in the city. The city ended up culling them, there was quite a debate, and save the rabbits posters up everywhere.
Ohhh, Mama! does that look good! I want some! I think we definitely need a barbecue! I have a serious situation with slugs! Any suggestions? I have saucers of beer out, it helps, but this year I can not keep on top of those nasty critters! Ina
I have been craving fish for…ever! Cod and Dill…mmmm *Swoon*!
Sorry about all the bunny issues!
I entered this site by chance, but I found very interesting. A greeting to all the people who visit this page.
Elizabeth, we can’t actually buy wood for smoking…. we have to go out and cut it. Thus the apple, from trimming our trees in the Vendee. Don’t know what we’ll do when it runs out – trim the walnut trees, I guess. Wonder how fig would be…..
Tanna, I think smoked cod on pizza would be delicious – a white pizza – with potatoes ;-))
Val, it makes you wonder doesn’t it? Save the rabbits as long as someone else has to deal with them….. Smoked lapin – you may be on to something
Ina, copper wire keeps them out of things – they won’t crawl over it. I hate them.
Chris, I have lots of dill this year…. no cukes for pickles though, Poor planning.
Baresytapas, and a greeting to you as well. Welcome!
