A farewell to Emma — 30 Comments

  1. Katie, I am so sorry about the loss of Emma. She obviously had a good life but letting go is never easy on us. All of our dogs have been black and white and each of them holds a special part of our hearts. Miss Daisy is a Blue Heeler mix that we got from the ASPCA and we feel lucky to have her. Emma was a beautiful dog. I hope Sedi will be all right without her.

  2. Gorgeous dog Katie, so sorry for your loss. Its damn hard loosing a beloved pet, she was lucky to have a good life with you. Take care, Ina

  3. I’m so sorry, Katie. You did the right thing. But as you said, it’s one thing to know you’re doing the right thing, and another to have to do it.

  4. So sorry for Emma and you and your family. She was obviously a beloved member of your pack and what a beautiful dog, too.

  5. Katie and Son Mari – I’m so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you two and Sedi at this time. You are the second of my friends to lose a beloved dog in the past day – heartbreaking.

  6. Katie, I am so sorry to hear this. She was a very beautiful dog and friend. It takes a lot of time to get over this. We still miss our Kippy after 3 months. It is getting easier, but you do not forget. God Bless.

  7. Dearest Katie, So sorry to hear your news but know, with absolute certainty, that you’ve been the perfect family for Emma. You’re a lovely person. Take good care. With love, Gee x

  8. You say it very well here: “It’s much easier to grasp that fact on a logical, intellectual level than to deal with it in reality, on an emotional level.” In the last photo, she’s really lady-like. A big hug.

  9. yesterday when Sophie said us that you wouldn’t come , I had a thought for Emma
I hoped that she got better but I made a mistake

I hope my english is not too bad

  10. Dear Katie, I do feel your loss and I am so sorry. I am an ardent dog lover and saying goodbye is just a tragic dreadful thing. Emma was such a beautiful doggie. Only time heals and you are lucky to have another gorgeous dog to shower with love. I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

  11. Katie, I am so sorry for your loss. Pets bring so much joy and comfort in our lives that when they are gone, it is a hole in our lives that can not be replaced but will gently fill with nothing but good memories. Huge yeasty Babe hugs.

  12. Thank you, everyone for your kind words and sympathy. When It happens so quickly it’s hardest on the ones left but we’re doing okay.
She was the most beautiful, loving dog I ever owned. Sedi will tolerate petting; Emma loved serious, big hugs – and demanded lots of them all day long. We expected it to happen within this year… Just not so quickly… We adjust.

  13. after years of reading your blog I have grown to love your dogs and I am so sorry for the loss of Emma. She will be missed I am sure

  14. Katie, I’m so sorry to hear that you lost your big, beautiful dog. 🙁 My condolences to both you and son mari. (By which I mean big, trans-Atlantic hugs to a person I’ve never met while I get teary eyed.)
