Gâteau à la Crème; Bread Baking Babes are sweet this month

The Bread Baking Babes are dabbling, ever so slightly, outside the box.

Lien assures us that, as it has yeast and must be allowed to rise twice, it is a bread.

It must be the name that's wrong - gâteau being French for cake.

But then the French don't have cakes in the American sense of the word so we just won't go down that road.

But Brioche is sort of a gâteau….

It's Raymond Blanc's recipe and he ought to know what to call it.

Oh my….

Well, if you want all of those details, you're just going to have to visit Lien, of Notitie van Lien, our host kitchen for this month.

This was all her idea.

And I have to say the Babes have outdone themselves with individuality this month.

That simple Crème has been everything but: lemon, key lime, Irish whisky…..

The only debate is whether to have them as dessert or for breakfast.

I think mid-anytime snack would be perfect!

  1. Well, you’ve certainly outdone yourself! A really “sweet” write up and you’re right, mid-anytime snack is just right for any and all of these.
Aren’t Babes “sweet” all the time, even when we’re savory?
Sweet or not it’s always a joy to see us all gathered together here. Thanks.

  2. I was just about to ask the same question as Tanna. Aren’t we always sweet?
I love seeing all the gateaux on one page. Breakfast!! I chose this for breakfast. Except maybe Heather’s chocolate version. That would be for lunch.

  3. I love to make brioche at home – due to it’s use of next to no flour (meaning – a wee bit lower in carbs with my Type 1 diabetes silly blood sugar ups/downs ). But these pictures from the BBB gang – drool – drool – drool. Breakfast time – here I come – along with a cafe allonge ….

  4. Tanna, yes, they’re sweet…. And sassy, and, and….
    manningroad, I agree…. anytime!
Elizabeth, I love sweet things for breakfast.
Anna, I’ve never made it, but this makes me want to try. Only a wee bit lower I think….
