Lordy, Lordy it’s Lardy!
Cake, that is.
Okay, “Modern” Lardy Cake.
It’s been one of those week and my witty, warped words have wandered.
And I’m late…. Sorry, Babes!
Explanations follow…. I doubt that you’ll be surprised to hear it involved food and copious amounts of wine.
Back to the fat, er, I mean, Modern Lardy Cake
As it happens, Lien, of Notitie van Lien and our host kitchen for the month, watches some of the same cooking shows as I do on TV.
However, Lien is much more adventurous than I and actually decided to make the Lardy Cake she saw, although she did have to make some changes.
We Babes are a flexible lot….
(That sounds ever so much better than saying we always know best…. Which, of course, we do, but we’ll stick with ‘flexible’.)
Just so you know – Lien’s recipe doesn’t use actual lard.
If you want to bake it yourself (and you should) check out Notitie van Lien for the recipe and details for being a Bread Baking Buddy.

Ilva’s Lardy Cake
I think a cup of steaming, dark hot chocolate and a big wedge of this, warm, slathered in butter will be just the thing Christmas morning.
Or any morning…..
