It might not have been the intention to make holiday bread, but when it’s bright red, well….
What can I say?
Some of them are more purple, some a lovely shade of rose, and some are even gold or multicolored. Beets do come in a variety of shades….
Still, they all look rather festive I think.
Cathy, of Bread Experience, our host kitchen for the month, baked this Sourdough Beet Challah three times before she was happy with the color, texture and taste.
The third time was ‘the charm’
The shade of red on the final recipe is gorgeous!
Personally, I think the flavor of the red beets would be a perfect foil for smoked salmon on my holiday table.
If you want to try your hand go to Bread Experience for the recap of her efforts as well as the recipe and the details for being a Bread Baking Buddy this month.

…serve the bread with smoked salmon? Now there’s a great idea! I love the idea of adding a little dill and capers.
Elizabeth, except the salmon and the pink might clash a bit….. but the green would help. And we could just close our eyes lol
