Bread Baking Babes bake Cinnamon Raisin Struan Bread

I hate the thought of cleaning out bookshelves. I find cleaning of any sort to be abhorrent but the thought of cleaning bookshelves always implies doing a bit of culling which I really hate.

Once I decide to simply dust them all I can happily spend days getting lost in the books, discovering treasures I’d forgotten about or finding favorites I’d misplaced.

And that’s exactly what what happened to one of the Babe’s this month

Elle, of Feeding My Enthusiasms, our host kitchen this month, was doing a year end clean and, tucked away in the mystery section, was a favorite old cookbook: Sacramental Magic in a Small-Town Cafe – Recipes and Stories from Brother Juniper’s Cafe’.

In the book she found a recipe for Cinnamon Raisin Struan Bread.

Being a lover of both struan bread and Peter Reinhart (okay, an admirer of Peter Reinhart…) she decided the Babes should delight themselves with fragrant Cinnamon Raisin Bread.

There were some very happy, sweet Babes this month…

You’ll find the full story, the recipe, instructions, and the info for being a Bread Baking Buddy this month at Feeding My Enthusiasms.

It makes 3 loaves and freezes well.

Just think of all of the lovely breakfasts and snacks…..

And that’s it for the Babes in March….

  1. Lovely round up, as usual, Katie. Thank you for doing this each month! I still have lots of bookshelves to go through. Culling and cleaning and stopping to read this and that…it takes time! Maybe I’ll find the perfect bread for later in the year 🙂

  2. I’m with you. I hate cleaning out bookshelves. Whenever I start, I invariably end up sitting on the floor with the 2nd or 3rd book I’ve pulled down, thinking “I didn’t know we had this” and then starting to skim through and ending up reading it. And then it’s time to just put all the books back and decide to try clearing out the shelves another day.

  3. Elle, all of the breads look delicious. As to the bookshelves….

    You are so welcome, Karen

    kate – it’s a great title, isn’t ?

    And always welcome Tanna

Elizabeth – it’s always a day (days) of discovery. One could say that if I didn’t have so many books I would be able to remember them all. One could say that would rake away the joy….

    • One could say the same thing here. One could also say that it would be a good idea to put the two big stacks of books from my parents’ house onto the shelves with the rest of the books. But then, one isn’t really taking into account that a.) there is no room on the shelves and b.) there are so many more books to read.

(I have to admit that I wish I had the courage to rake away a bit of the joy here. It’s increasingly difficult to move around in the narrowing room)
