The Bread Baking Babes are exploring the world this year.
This month it’s Iraq and Shubbak el-Habayak.
Yeah, me neither…..
Karen, of Karen’s Kitchen Stories and our host kitchen for the month, found the recipe in a book called ‘The Book of Buns’, by Jane Mason.
This is an Iraqi sweet bread whose name translates to The Lover’s Window.
Any bread with that name has to be wonderful….
It’s flavored with orange blossom water, rose water, cardamom and a few other things that, according to the Babes, makes this bread both fragrant and delicious.
You’ll find all the details, the main recipe, instructions, and the info for being a Bread Baking Buddy this month at Karen’s Kitchen Stories.
You’ll find all of the various ways the Babes were creative on the individual blogs below.
Have some fun!
And that’s it for the Babes in May….

These are right up my alley. Dangerous, though. Bread and I love each other waaaaaay too much!
Thanks for the lovely round up!
This must be heaven in a bun….thank goodness I cannot buy them round here !
Cathy, it looks like a great bread,
kellypea, I’m the same. It totally relate to the French nibbling on the baguettes before they get them home to the family….
You’re welcome Karen – fun, as always.
kate, we have too much good bread as it is – on every corner!
