Bread Baking Babes go a little fruity: Pain au Levain with Citrus

To say that the Bread Baking Babes go a little fruity is redundant.

Or maybe not… It depends on the choice of verb, but I digress.

The Babes have always been an independent lot (again, stating the obvious) which made me wonder if Cathy, of Bread Experience, and our host kitchen for the month, wasn’t being a tad hopeful / indulgent / pragmatic / tongue in cheek when she laid out rules for the bread.

Yes, you read that correctly. She set out rules for the Babes to follow.

But the rules basically said that they could do whatever they wanted.

As if they wouldn’t have anyway….

To paraphrase: use the flour you like, use some citrus of some sort and toss is some herbs or seeds or something.

Does she know the Babes or what?!?

Her own version of the bread had lemon zest, fresh thyme, and fennel seeds – which sounds wonderful to me.

Too bad I couldn’t have sent her some of the fragrant lemon thyme from my garden….

For the basic recipe for this lovely sourdough bread as well as her particular version and all the details for being a Bread Baking Buddy this month visit Bread Experience.

  1. Ah, you caught the spirit of the challenge this month perfectly. It shows in the many different breads, all united by citrus, herbs and/or seeds!

  2. Rules, schmules!!

Ah, don’t all these breads lined up look lovely?

Lemon thyme! J’adore lemon thyme! If only I had some; I could have added it to the olive oil we used to dip our bread into.
