Where we lived in the U.S. was so far out in the middle of nowhere we couldn’t even get a pizza delivered. We tried once. I think it was Dominos who sent out a flyer saying they would deliver to our area. Delivery was guaranteed in 20 minutes or the pizza was free. We called and explained to the manager that we would love to be able to order pizzas from them but we knew that it was at least a 25 minute drive to our house around a lake on twisty roads. We would order but only if he would waive the 20 minute rule and tell the driver to be safe.
Our pizza arrived in 18 minutes.
We never ordered again.
We can’t get anything delivered here, either. Actually, I’m not sure if there is even the option of us driving to pick something up.
Why am I telling you all this?
When this post was offered to me I could see the merits of discussing home cooking as a healthy life style…. I’ve been doing it all my life. It’s a bit of ‘preaching to the choir’. But if someone picks up some healthy tips it’s worth it.
Why eating homemade food is considered a healthy lifestyle?
With increasingly busy lifestyles, it’s easier to buy take away food or eat out. But, is that the best option? Fast food results in weight gain and has various adverse effects on human health. Also, it’s more costly to eat out than to prepare homemade meals. Eating homemade food is a healthy practice you can cultivate; it positively impacts on your body and mind.
Below are reasons why homemade food is considered a healthy lifestyle:
1. Homemade food is nutritious
Healthy eating is a crucial factor in being healthy. By preparing homemade meals, you have control over your diet. This way, it’s easy to pick healthy food items for your loved ones like fresh vegetables and fruits. Processed foods or meals prepared in restaurants are very high in fat, salt, and sugar. But, homemade cooking recipes don’t incorporate a lot of preservatives.
More so, they may use fats or oils to prepare the food that you don’t love to use. If you consume such foods, you’re likely to experience weight problems and heighten your risk developing weight-related diseases. With homemade meals, you use ingredients of your choice and have control of the contents of your food. You can even read homemade cooking blogs to enhance your cooking skills.
2. Homemade food is hygienic
It’s not easy to maintain optimal levels of cleanliness while preparing meals in restaurants. But, cooking methods for homemade food tend to keep food healthier. More so, clean and safe water is used to make the food. If you use hard water and wish to solve water quality issues in your home, on CleanerSofterWater.com, will address all your hard water and filtration issues.
Most restaurants are notable for serving significant portions of food, and this can result in overeating. This way, many health issues arise. However, by eating at home, you can customize your portion sizes as per your requirements.
4. Builds healthy eating habits
Preparing your meals at home is a good lesson for your kids. Teach them to make healthy food; if you teach them how to prepare healthy meals early enough, they will be likely to cook for themselves later on. By doing so, you give them an excellent start for many good habits.
5. Getting your kids to eat healthily
By preparing your meals at home, you encourage your children to eat healthy food. Besides, some studies unveil that consuming home-prepared meals often is associated with healthy and happier children and teens that are less likely to misuse drugs or alcohol.
6. Homemade food is local and fresh
There are many benefits to eating food that is locally sourced or locally prepared food. Restaurants source their food items in bulk and sometimes from various places in the world. These products take long on the road to reach their destination. However, you can easily acquire food items to cook in your home; and this ensures freshness.
7. Food safety
Food prepared at home is safer than the one sourced from eateries. Research shows that a high number of foodborne illnesses result from foods consumed in restaurants.
8. No hidden calories
Restaurants use different ways to add taste to their food. Most of the family restaurants provide oily and spicy food which is not really good for health. Fast food from restaurants is highly rich in fats and cholesterol which is not something you can eat often. So, if you eat such food, you end up consuming extra calories and saturated fats. Additionally, they use highly processed ingredients to lower their costs. But with homemade food, there are no hidden calories.
Homemade meals are associated with many health benefits. By preparing your food at home, you have full control over the food products to include in your diet. It helps you develop healthier eating habits. Also, it’s fresh, more nutritious, and you can be sure of safety.
