We were in Bordeaux recently.
In addition to the annual rendez-vous chez le mรฉdecin (mon mariโs doctor appointment) we had 2 things to accomplish.
The first was a shopping spree at the Asian supermarket (Eurasie). I found water chestnuts! For some reason I have never been able to find them on past trips. Plus they had a new section of noodlesโฆ I love noodles.
I had a hard time showing restraint.
Actually, I didnโt show much restraint and I now have a well-stocked pantry.
My pantry gave me the idea for this easy โbarbecuedโ shrimp that doesnโt need a barbecue and is ready in minutes. All the right flavors with very little effort. It was great with Fried Rice.
Another โsimpleโ recipe.

This is a fast & easy pantry dish using purchased sauces. Sometimes, itโs best to be simple. The hoisin sauce adds a nice โbarbecue grillโ flavor to the shrimp.

The second thing we wanted was some new lampshades.
We went to IKEA.
When we were first renovating this house we went regularly and knew all the shortcuts. We could go in, find whatever, and be out in a reasonable amount of time.
Howeverโฆ.
We havenโt been there in a few years. The store was expanded and rearranged so we followed the arrows.
9 hours later we found the lampshades.
Actually, we found the section that would / should have lampshades if IKEA carried lampshades which, apparently, they donโt / no longer do.
5 hours later we managed to find the exit and get back to our car.
We remembered why we havenโt been to IKEA in a few years.
I remember the excitement among all the expats when Ikea opened in Casablanca. I went once, bought nothing !!!!!
When we knew how to get in the โbackโ way it was fine and I like some of their storage ideas but itโs not worth it any more. It was crowded thoโฆ.
We have learnt never to go to Ikea without first going online to Bordeaux Ikea, checking their range and more importantly their stock levels. We then know we have at least a 50% chance of getting what we need/want. Good news re Eurasie. We are overdue to stock up there.
I doubt Iโll go back โ but if I have to, Iโll go online first. Love Eurasie. Iโve been to the other 2 locations and the one at Bordeaux Lac is still the best.
I like simple. And I like shrimp ๐
I never go into IKEA. Ever. I did once, when they first opened near our previous home. It was a maze I never want to try to navigate again. If thereโs anything I want, I order it online. Theyโre always extremely busy since itโs the only store in Michigan and the crush of people and trying to find my way is overwhelming to me. Iโm not a crowd person. Iโm glad you survived ๐
If I have nothing to do and the store is not busy I am happy to wander and look โ as long as Iโm not looking FOR something. For now โ never again. Much prefer online. lol
Water chestnuts! I havenโt seen them in a zillion years. They were available in NL when we first moved there in the early 80s. Then they disappeared. Have never seen them in FR. Too bad Bordeaux is so far.
This is a first for me. I used to bring them back from the U.S. Iโm sending the hubs back for another supply before they run out lol He needs more sweet ginger sauce, anyway!
