Bread Baking Babes Bake Buttery Bread

I can’t believe this….

When I did the June Babe’s recap I started it with this sentence:

‘It’s hot here…. 38C (100F) today.’

It’s much cooler today – 37C (98F) but tomorrow is supposed to be warmer: 40C (104F).

One more comment then I’ll talk about the bread…. I’m so sick of blue skies I could scream.

I can’t resist alliteration….. The Babes actually made Crescent Rolls.

They actually ‘made’ them as opposed to my own last experience with crescent rolls – banging a Pillsbury tube on the counter edge (Do they still make those?). Now I buy croissants from the boulangerie (experts).

But the Babes must bake their own.

But it’s summer.

Kelly, of A Messy Kitchen, and our host kitchen for the month, thought maybe an easier version would be better for now.

Easy, Flaky Crescent rolls.

She has some great tips on how to work with the butter and what kind of butter to use (didn’t know there was a difference?)

The Babes all agreed these were much easier than croissants – and no one said that they weren’t as delicious. (backwards, that).

If you want to try these easy, flaky delights go to A Messy Kitchen for the recipe and detailed instructions on how to do it. Plus you’ll find all the details of baking along this month.

  1. I just got the cryptic message: “Nonce verification failed.”

    I’ll try this again….

38C? 37C? 40C? Yikes! That’s horrible. It’s just not right. Make it stop.

Mercifully, it was only about 25C here when I made the crescents but even then I thought it was a little warm to be turning on the oven. I suspect that if the temperature had been in the 30s, I might have tried baking them in the barbecue. Oooooh!! Another B word.

I too love alliteration…. How about this: Bread Baking Babes Bypass Bakery By Baking Butter Buns. OR in the case of extreme heat: Bread Baking Babes Bake Buttery Buns By Barbecuing.

(I looked online, and apparently they do still sell those boxes of premade crescents! Why would anyone want them?)

    • The nonce problem has been plaguing me for weeks. I have finally asked for professional help – which is not forthcoming quickly.
8 B’s – I’m impressed – but I think Google would frown on that for a title. They are just no fun at all! Sigh…

      • They really are no fun at all. They’re so busy being concerned about how it looks on a handheld device. Google would never have allowed any of those wonderfully wordy 19th century book titles. I particularly like this one: “The Affecting History Of Two Young Gentlewomen, Who Were Ruined By Their Excessive Attachment To The Amusements Of The Town”

(For some reason, I just got the message “reply failed, please try again”. I thought I was logged in. But it seems I’m not. Still. I’ll try again.)

        • Now I’m going to have to find that book – I may propose it to my book club just to watch their reaction. It’s likely old enough to be free on Kindle – if it’s on kindle….
It’s not on Kindle and is rather expensive.
But I do like the name.

  2. Ooooohhhhhhhh, my poor dear. You can keep that temperature and I will sympathize from a much cooler distance. There’s a reason we haven’t left the Pacific Northwest! Even here I time baking to the cool, early hours in summer. It was indeed worth it for these rolls though, even with my broken butter bits.

    • Cool morning hours were devoted to watering and other gardening tasks, I’m starting to hate watering and gardening in general.
I would be happier baking these rolls. Time for a life change I think lol
