Grilled Veal Chops with Lemon & Garlic; stubborn dog

Veal is a delicious, tender meat, perfect for grilling.

It used to be somewhat controversial. ‘Milk-Fed Veal’ was a pale tender meat from calves that did not have a good or long life.

That wasn’t true of all veal. When we lived in Andorra, the calves for veal were raised and grazed with the herd in the mountains. It was called ‘country veal’.

Today, veal from the U.S or the E.U. is regulated (since 2007) for a healthy and good, albeit short life. Average age at slaughter is 26 – 34 weeks.

And let’s be honest…. if you like cheese, milk, and butter you can’t get too upset by veal.

It’s hot here.

It was over 102F (39C) today.

Guapa, our very old, very stubborn big dog, does not do well in the heat.

She spends most of her time in the TV room where we have installed a free-standing air-conditioner for her.

One door from the TV room leads to the kitchen and the other leads to the hall where I have my desk.

Neither the kitchen nor the hall are nearly as cool as the TV room.

After I feed her, around 5 pm, she has always come into the hall and laid by my desk. The only time she leaves ‘her’ room.

Before I had a chance to stop her today, she was sprawled out by my desk, panting.

She wouldn’t move.

I finally laid a treat trail from her spot back to the TV room.

Eventually, she slowly (she’s very old) got up and followed, eating, the treats.

I blocked the 2 doorways.

She paced and panted and panted and paced until I let her back into the hot hallway.

She gave me a dirty look and lay down.

She’s been there, panting, ever since.

Apparently I’m going to have to move my desk into ‘her’ room until the heat wave is over.

  1. There’s no reasoning with old dogs is there ! Wait till tomorrow and it will probably be totally different !!

  2. Your poor doggy just wants you. Murphy was like that at the end. Always needing to be touching me. It didn’t matter how or how uncomfortable it made him, as long as he was touching me.

    • She has her different spots for different times of day and that’s where she’ll be, regardless of reality. It all depends on what I’m doing – or what I’m supposed to be doing at that time of day. She does like a schedule!
