Usually I would still have garden tomatoes at this time of year. This year, however, I have conceded defeat to the stink bugs.
The tomatoes are fine when they are still green (Fried Green Tomatoes?). As soon as the start to ripen the stink bugs attack, leaving nasty little holes on the outside and white, hard spots on the inside.
I’m done.
Fortunately I managed to get a decent quantity in my freezer.

One of the issues (sometimes good; sometimes bad) of big old stone houses is the inside temperature doesn’t change fast.
It’s been cold for about a week so our house is cold. We’re too stubborn to turn the furnace / boiler on for heat in Sept. so we’ve been getting by with an evening fire in the big fireplace.
It’s been enough.
Today was warmer.
I opened windows and doors to let the outside heat in.
That also let in flies and other assorted bugs, but it’s a bit warmer.
Love the seasons changing….
