The French term for a savory, baking powder bread is ‘cake’.
They even give it a proper English pronunciation.
But, being American, calling this a cake just doesn’t seem right. And it’s not really a sweet / tea bread either.
I settled on Savory Bread…. but it’s not really bread either.
Whatever you call it, it was good sliced … Continue reading.....
Meandering down memory lane….
I used to actually bake bread with the Bread Baking Babes.
This one was mine, when I was the ‘host kitchen’ back in 2009.
I ran across it the other day when I was doing the monthly recap for the Babes. Only two of the Babes baking at that time are still part of the … Continue reading.....
I’ve been making a lot of zucchini bread.
The only kind I’ve never made is the one that used to sneak into our office a million times every summer 25 years ago. You know the one… It was just called ‘Zucchini Bread’….

We don’t … Continue reading.....
This is my new favorite thing to do with zucchini.
I’m done with baking sweet zucchini breads with Chocolate or Lemon or Fall Spices.
It’s cheese and olives and herbs from now on.
Seriously…. This was really excellent.
The French actually use the word ‘cake’ – not to describe a sweet treat with frosting but for a small, savory … Continue reading.....
I have been making this bread every week for the last 20 years or so.
I first started making it around 1992 as that is the copyright date of the cookbook I found the recipe in: “Ireland – Grand Places, Glorious Food Cookbook”.
There are 2 brown soda bread recipes in the book, both ‘traditional’ and almost identical. Both are … Continue reading.....
I’ve been seeing Lemon Zucchini Bread all over the internet these days.
Obviously, since it’s the season, I had to try it.
I had wanted to try it with yellow squash, but the potager didn’t cooperate and I had to use green instead. Actually, it’s rather pretty.
Most of the recipes I’ve seen called for it to be finished with … Continue reading.....
