Coffee-flavored Tiramisu Dessert

Thyme for Cooking Posted on December 21, 2020 by KateDecember 21, 2020

I love coffee and I love chocolate. One of my favorite treats to buy when I was in the U.S. were dark chocolate-covered coffee beans. I loved them and I knew they were safe from mon mari. Sadly, I’ve never seen them here but I do manage to find coffee-infused dark chocolate truffles (also safe from mon mari). All of which makes the fact that I rarely eat tiramisu rather … Continue reading →

Wake Up to the Wonders of Coffee-Flavored Sweets

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 24, 2020 by KateOctober 12, 2020

I keep trying to maintain my reputation of being a cook, not a baker, but I must confess I dearly love sweets. But I don’t like all sweets. I need strong flavors, not just sugar. Even as a kid I never ate the cotton candy at the local fairs. I pass on white cakes (bakery cakes, wedding cakes, birthday cakes – never touch ’em). I love fruit desserts – but … Continue reading →

Pumpkin Cake, Cream Cheese Frosting

Butternut Squash Cake

It was my turn to hold our monthly book club meeting. That meant that I got to choose the book, “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens and I got to make the cake. Deciding on what kind of cake was easy…. It had to have pumpkin / butternut squash in it because I had to use up what I had left from last summer’s harvest. A little internet search … Continue reading →

Cranberry Crisp; no power – again!

Thyme for Cooking Posted on December 22, 2019 by KateDecember 22, 2019
Cranberry Orange Crisp

We had some friends over for dinner last night and I wanted to do something Christmas-y for dessert. For me that means cranberries. So last week I sent mon mari off in search of the elusive (here) cranberry. He was successful. Then I went in search of an was cranberry recipe. I was successful. I found this fantastic Cranberry Crisp recipe. Even though I had to scroll through far too … Continue reading →

Little Apple Pies

Thyme for Cooking Posted on October 6, 2019 by KateOctober 20, 2019
Little Apple Pie

Apple Pie. Is there anything more representative of fall days than the aroma of an apple pie baking? I don’t make pies – and an entire apple pie would be a lot for 2 people (although, somehow, I think we’d manage….). But individual Apple Tarts or Little Apple Pies are perfect. Made with purchased puff pastry they are easy and quick. The house still smells of cinnamon and nutmeg, the … Continue reading →

Cherry Crisp; spring flowers

Thyme for Cooking Posted on June 9, 2019 by KateMay 9, 2020

This Cherry Crisp is what I made when my oven quit working. I baked it for 40 minutes, and the cherries were nicely cooked. The top got a little too dark but I think that was because the thermostat quit working at some point during the baking time. I noted to check it after 35 minutes just in case. I am adjusting to my new oven. All I really want … Continue reading →

Clementine Bundt Cake; the dinner menu

Thyme for Cooking Posted on February 24, 2019 by KateApril 23, 2020
Clementine Bundt Cake

I baked a cake! We had a few people over for dinner to celebrate Chinese New Year. I decided it would be fun to do a Chinese-style banquet. Seemed like a good idea at the time…. I spent the entire day chopping and prepping. Okay, it was fun but I doubt I’ll do it ever again. The menu follows the cake recipe. As to the cake…. Cake would not be … Continue reading →
