Baby Pumpkins Stuffed with Creamy Spinach; French food fun

Thyme for Cooking Posted on October 11, 2013 by KatieOctober 4, 2017

II may have mentioned in the past that some things are hard to find here. And, no, I’m not talking about peanut butter and sour cream, the two things that everyone thinks we lack. Cranberries have been difficult until the last year or two; molasses is always a challenge as is green Tabasco, dark brown sugar and water chestnuts. Enter the ‘English Store’. One can find them scattered about, with … Continue reading →

Asparagus and Cherry Tomato Quiche

Thyme for Cooking Posted on May 22, 2013 by KatieJuly 24, 2019

Usually when I make quiche it’s as a main course, filled with both meat and vegetables. For a change, I decided to have it as a side dish – well, a combination side dish, working as both the rice and the vegetable. Also, for a change, I kept it simple, just using spring vegetables. You could add cubed ham or sliced, cooked chicken for a heartier dish. Asparagus and Cherry … Continue reading →

Chicken Breasts Stuffed with Mozzarella and Basil; French Paperwork

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 12, 2011 by KatieAugust 11, 2013

Okay, here's a photo of mon mari's clean and tidy barn. It's been like this all of one day and it won't last. but we have a photo record of it. The toilet is not an integral part – it will be installed in the upstairs bathroom (soon, I hope). Now on to the important news: our Titre de Sejour. We did not tread an easy path to getting our … Continue reading →

Spaghetti with Ginger Meatballs; how to get a free phone… the complicated way.

Thyme for Cooking Posted on April 1, 2011 by KatieApril 28, 2019

I so love dealing with the French phone company. I few months ago I decided to see if a faster internet connection was available for our little backwater. I went to the Orange office, identified myself (with copies of my bills as proof), stated my mission and waited my turn. After about 20 minutes I spoke with an agent who, after 5 minutes of working on his computer, told me … Continue reading →

Creamed Savoy Cabbage; French spell check; Weekly Menu

Thyme for Cooking Posted on January 14, 2011 by KatieAugust 11, 2013

Spell check: friend or foe? I maintain that, whilst I spell excellently, I can't type for shit. It's also a widely known fact that I cannot proof-read my own writing.  My problem is that my fingers are continually about a dozen words behind my thoughts so, sometimes (often), the words just get messed up.  Because I know what I'm saying, I read what I think I wrote. The whole situation … Continue reading →
