Repas de chasse – the annual hunter’s lunch

Thyme for Cooking Posted on April 17, 2016 by KateApril 17, 2016

I’m exhausted. We went to the annual hunter’s lunch in the village today. We left at 12:00 and got back home at 5:30. It’s a 3 minute drive….. I took photos. To start we had the usual apero. Today it was Sangria. The nibbles were actually served in big bowls but I put a few in my soup bowl for the photo. We bring our own plates, glasses, tableware, etc. … Continue reading →

Lemon Salmon with Yogurt Dill Sauce, Exciting Times

Thyme for Cooking Posted on April 23, 2015 by KateApril 23, 2015

Do you ever have those weeks where everything is more difficult than expected and takes far longer than expected? As one of my grade school teachers use to say: The hurrier I go the behinder I get. (Don’t ask, but yes, she really use to say that.) That’s what my spring has been like so far. I feel like I’m running in quick-sand. On the other hand, I got my … Continue reading →

Le repas de chasse, a pictorial

Thyme for Cooking Posted on April 19, 2015 by KateApril 19, 2015

Another Hunt Dinner. I’m exhausted. I can go for a four hour walk, uphill both ways, and feel tired but invigorated. I sit through a four hour lunch and I barely have the energy to breath. Fortunately, this time I remembered my little pocket camera, so I’ll tell you about it in pictures. I don’t think my mind can function well enough to find the words. A month or so … Continue reading →

Scallops Provençal; The Christmas Truce

Thyme for Cooking Posted on December 12, 2014 by KateOctober 21, 2017

Are you familiar with the Christmas Truce? It’s one of those stories we should remember. Read about it after the recipe. Tender scallops, quickly sautéed and finished with a tomato, white wine and tarragon sauce make an easy main course. You can use either the small (bay) scallops or the larger (sea) scallops in this dish, and all shrimp or no shrimp. I like flexible dishes Baking and serving from … Continue reading →

Meatballs with Wild Mushroom Sauce

Thyme for Cooking Posted on October 25, 2013 by KateOctober 20, 2017

In the summer we love burgers. In the winter we love meatballs, We like them with pasta or rice or barley or mashed potatoes or…. Spaghetti. I know I just did a post on Spaghetti and Meatballs with Chard Mushroom Sauce. But, as it’s mushroom season, I thought we could have another variation, this time focusing on the mushrooms that are in season.. Cremini mushrooms would work fine in this … Continue reading →

Rosemary Pork Tenderloin, Marinated and Grilled, odd bits

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 27, 2013 by KateMay 10, 2017

I may have mentioned that mon mari was taking a more active interest in cooking this summer. Actually, he’s been taking a more active interest in the pre-cooking… finding marinades and brines for us to try. Naturally, I modify them as I thinks suits us, but the underlying recipes have been great. To this one, for example, I added a few spices and butterflied the tenderloin. The recipe called for … Continue reading →

Pasta with Tomatoes, Chard and White Zucchini, canning, French-style

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 8, 2013 by KateMay 10, 2017

The other night, as I was preparing the usual summer melange of tomatoes. chard and white zucchini, and wondering what new and innovative idea I could come up with I decided to hell with it…. Sometimes, one can stare at the day’s pickings from the garden and just not be the least bit inspired. Mon mari had already started his grilled potato (he’s in such a rut!) so I decided … Continue reading →
