Stuffed Rainbow Chard Leaves with Bacon and Mozzarella, my French

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 4, 2013 by KatieMay 10, 2017

I love making Stuffed Rainbow Chard Leaves. One can fill them with almost anything and have them for a first course, like these, a light lunch or use more meat and rice or couscous for a main course. As to using the cherry tomatoes….. It happens every year…. I plant cherry tomatoes (this year only 2 plants) because they’re ready a few weeks before the big ones and I get … Continue reading →

Goulash Soup; tripping down the primrose path

Thyme for Cooking Posted on January 11, 2012 by KatieJanuary 1, 2020

Yeah, yeah….. I know that ‘Goulash’ is not soup. It’s also not an American-style ‘hot dish’ made with ‘hamburger, condensed tomato soup and Creamettes Elbow Macaroni’. But, apparently I’ve been wrong a lot lately….. What’s once more? Besides, I’ve seen recipes for ‘Vegetarian Cassoulet’ (aka: Baked Beans) so I can call this Goulash Soup. But I really shouldn’t be calling my puppies shithouses. I know that my French could not … Continue reading →

Pasta with Grilled Chicken and Tapenade; I lost the will to cook

Thyme for Cooking Posted on August 19, 2010 by KatieOctober 8, 2017

I'd lost the will to cook. Not to eat, mind you…. That never goes away. Nor to drink…. So much wine; so little time. I'd simply lost the will to cook. It would appear that I have gotten into a rut. I'm no longer content merely to put a decent meal on the table. It has to be creative.  Colorful.  A feast for the eyes as well as the palate…. … Continue reading →

Stuffed Baby Zucchini; Foiled by Minitel; Weekly Menu

Thyme for Cooking Posted on July 16, 2010 by KatieDecember 8, 2013

Every time I think I am moving forward something happens to make me realize that, if I'm moving forward, it's in reverse. Last week I called the chimney sweep to arrange the annual summer cleaning. I was prepared. First: He had cleaned our chimneys last year.  As we are the only Americans in the area we should be somewhat memorable. Second: I was prepared to identify our house as 'the … Continue reading →

Baked Mashed Potatoes with Chevre; the phones, oh the phones..

Thyme for Cooking Posted on March 3, 2010 by KatieAugust 12, 2013

First, is there a short name for the automated answering systems that all businesses use now? You know the: If you want help press one; If you just like playing on the phone press two…. Since I don't know the answer I shall refer to such as the AAS for the duration of this post. In the US when the AAS answers your call the first option often given is: … Continue reading →

Sausage, Mushroom and Red Wine Risotto; Broken cook top again! Weekly Menu

Thyme for Cooking Posted on January 22, 2010 by KatieAugust 12, 2013

My cook top is not working…. Again. This is the third time in less than one year of use that a burner has ceased to function as the French so nicely say. It's the same one that 'ceased to function' last summer. I am not happy. Je ne suis pas content. The problem I have is twofold: First, my command of the language is not sufficient to vent my anger. … Continue reading →

Fried Butternut Squash; French conversation

Thyme for Cooking Posted on November 25, 2009 by KatieNovember 4, 2020

We finally got off our bottoms and decided it was time to get back to our French lessons. Part of the problem of living out in the middle of nowhere is, there’s no one to talk to. If we lived in town we’d have neighbors.  We’d have people to talk to.  We’d be able, or rather forced, to practice our French. But we can’t live in town with our big … Continue reading →
