Sesame Brown Rice with Mangetout (Snow Peas); bunny report

Thyme for Cooking Posted on May 6, 2011 by KateDecember 8, 2013

Once again I'm being plagued by baby bunnies. We have a chain link fence surrounding our front garden / lawn.  Last year I added a 15" (37cm) high wood fence all around the bottom and dug in chicken wire in the bad spots, where they regularly tried to dig under. That didn't bunny-proof the area, but it did seriously curtail their activity.  Instead of seeing a dozen rabbits nibbling on … Continue reading →

Egg Fu Yung with Cabbage, Sesame Chicken Strips; the update

Thyme for Cooking Posted on March 21, 2011 by KateMarch 10, 2019

It’s been a quiet week in Lake Woebegone…. Is that still on the radio? It’s been a quiet but productive week chez nous….. In spite of taking a day off to tour the inner sanctums of a shopping mall. Mon mari finished the ceiling in the second bedroom – except for the trim. For you who are staying with us in May – this will be your view: We’ll move … Continue reading →

Stir-Fried Turkey with Spinach; Could you holiday the ‘French way’?

Thyme for Cooking Posted on October 21, 2010 by KateOctober 21, 2017

I was just on holiday for 2 1/2 weeks….. It went like this: I spent 3 weeks frantically busy getting ready for it. I was busy every day and every evening while I was gone. I've spent the week since I've been home frantically busy catching up. What's wrong with this picture? Every summer we watch the French (and other Europeans) stuff their cars and/or campers so full one couldn't … Continue reading →

Caprese Quiche; the update – finally

Thyme for Cooking Posted on August 30, 2010 by KateOctober 23, 2017

Mon mari is back to normal. Well, other than that ‘no lifting anything heavier than a feather’ bit for two more weeks. On the bad news side that means he didn’t get to help me unload the last 6 metres of firewood this afternoon. (upper body exercise) On the good news side that means I am finally getting the rest of the doors on the kitchen cabinets. No hurry. It’s … Continue reading →

Chard, Chicken and Mushroom Quiche; Misbehaving Butternut Squash

Thyme for Cooking Posted on August 30, 2009 by KateOctober 23, 2017

This is what happens when butternut squash misbehaves: It rather makes one wonder what goes on out there in the garden in the middle of the night, doesn’t it? For reference, this is what a proper butternut squash looks like. I believe the green squash is the result of an illicit affair with either the 8-ball zucchini across the path or the cucumber next door. I haven’t quite decided what … Continue reading →

Brown Rice and Spinach Pilaf; MY toys….

Thyme for Cooking Posted on June 1, 2009 by KateNovember 8, 2017

Brown Rice and Spinach Pilaf  For some reason, mon mari is less than enthusiastic about me playing with his toys using his tools than one could expect, given the circumstances. Someone has to mow the grass, after all. I certainly wouldn’t be concerned about him using anything in my kitchen! (After I hid my good crepe and omelet pans…. He has a hard time grasping the ‘wooden spoon not a … Continue reading →

Chicken Creole; Miscommunication? Or none at all?

Thyme for Cooking Posted on March 20, 2009 by KateNovember 30, 2018

Chicken Creole Miscommunication? Or utter and complete lack of communication? And, why you should never leave your mobile phones at home…. I had doctor’s appointments this morning.  Nothing serious; routine mammogram; bone density scan. This being France, I was told to plan on two hours.  They do rather like to be thorough. This being Friday, mon mari decided he’d drive me, and go to the DIY store to stock up … Continue reading →
