Sausage and Crème Fraiche Quiche, I’ve switched sides

Thyme for Cooking Posted on May 12, 2014 by KatieOctober 23, 2017

I’ve switched! For years I have made my quiche with a rice crust. The last time I posted a quiche recipe one of my readers suggested a potato crust is also good. Hmmmm…… Mon mari is rather fond of potatoes. It seemed like such a good idea, and so simple. Naturally I didn’t bother to look for an actual recipe. The verdict? It was easier and quicker that the rice … Continue reading →

Beluga Lentil Tarts

Thyme for Cooking Posted on January 6, 2013 by KatieOctober 4, 2017

I love lentils. I love small things (Not diamonds…. I like big diamonds.  Never had a big diamond, but I’m pretty sure I’d like it.) Back to the food (It’s been one of those days.) Ahem…. I’m not sure where I first saw Beluga Lentils but I immediately wanted them. Amazingly, I found them right off. So often, things I see on American food blogs are simply not available here … Continue reading →

Aligot – mashed potatoes, Auvergne style

Thyme for Cooking Posted on November 30, 2011 by KatieOctober 14, 2017

One big food holiday is over; an entire four weeks of nibbling, noshing, snacking and supping is on the horizon. If you came here looking for my usual, somewhat healthy, somewhat lo-cal recipe to help survive the holidays…. Not today, sorry. If you cam here looking for something pretty or fancy or flashy for entertaining during the holidays…. This isn’t it. The last time we were in Paris I was … Continue reading →

A wee bit about Dairy

Thyme for Cooking Posted on August 28, 2011 by KatieJune 9, 2013

One of the long-standing myths about life in Europe is that we suffer the lack of sour cream. It's true: there is no sour cream here. There is also no low-fat sour cream or non-fat sour cream (isn't non-fat cream an oxymoron?) for which I will be forever grateful.  I do not use artificially 'low fat' or 'low cal' dairy products but, rather, those that are naturally lower. I prefer … Continue reading →

White Pizza with Smoked Salmon and Green Garlic; the Update

Thyme for Cooking Posted on March 28, 2011 by KatieOctober 12, 2017

There has been a lot of cursing chez nous recently. Mon mari has been working on the floor of our bedroom. He’s using the same boards as he used in the living room a year ago.  They’re just not cooperating this time. He stained and varnished them prior to nailing them down, same as last time, but it must be the damp spring weather – he can’t get the tongue … Continue reading →
