Pesto Potato Salad; French Doctors; Weekly Menu

Thyme for Cooking Posted on August 6, 2010 by KatieDecember 8, 2013

Bedside manner. One hears about it on the medical television shows….. Doctors are supposed to have a 'good bedside manner.'  I think that means they are supposed to be pleasant, concerned, helpful, kind and caring. American doctors (or so the TV shows lead me to believe) receive some, albeit cursory, training in 'beside manner'. French doctors don't bother. Don't misunderstand. They are very concerned about their patients.  At times there … Continue reading →

Cabbage Rolls; The French Healthcare System… again

Thyme for Cooking Posted on November 29, 2008 by KatieAugust 19, 2013

Cabbage Rolls We splurged at FNAC the other day. I may have mentioned that we don't have actual television here in Vlad's House. We do have a DVD player. We were in FNAC (huge multi-media store) last week and went a bit crazy at their 'Holiday Specials' table. We had already watched all of our boxed sets of videos, which we have already owned for years, three additional times since moving in here. … Continue reading →

Thyme for Cooking Posted on July 31, 2008 by KatieNovember 8, 2017

Pasta Tonnato We think mon mari is fixed. We hope mon mari is fixed  He has one more test to pass next week.  I’m making him study. He hasn’t been in hospital all this time, but a bit of back and forth, in and out, tests and procedures, punctuated by a few trips to find a house and a couple of long, leisurely lunches on the coast. As long as … Continue reading →

Burgers & Beans; The saga continues: The Visiting Nurse

Thyme for Cooking Posted on June 9, 2008 by KatieOctober 8, 2017

Burgers and Beans Another example of two people talking about different things together: Do  you walk to school or carry your lunch? Mon mari was discharged from the hospital on Saturday morning. Sounds simple, doesn't it?  He comes home and mows the lawn (which he is doing as I write this, but I digress). The French, after investing 17 days in your health and well-being, are not simply going turn … Continue reading →

Yes, Life is still different here

Thyme for Cooking Posted on March 7, 2007 by KatieMay 19, 2013

When I got the post this morning there were two envelopes – kind of a record for us here.  With no junk mail and no catalogs the morning walk to pick up the post is, well, a morning walk, nothing more. The first envelope was from the Church.  You know which one I mean, the one always capitalized, that has their own country in the middle of Rome.  Most casual … Continue reading →
