Beet and Goat Cheese Tarts; the update

Thyme for Cooking Posted on January 21, 2013 by KateAugust 10, 2013

Do you waste food? I used to. I would routinely buy something, like sour cream (in the US), use what I needed, then, two or three weeks later realize that the rest was moldy and through it out. That rarely happens any longer. I started getting very conscious of it when I started my menu planning site (Thyme for Cooking) as I didn't want my subscribers to buy foods that … Continue reading →

Pasta with Beef and Mushroom Sauce; the update

Thyme for Cooking Posted on December 18, 2012 by KateAugust 12, 2013

Pasta sauce doesn't have to be tomato based. Even pasta sauce with ground beef doesn't have to be tomato based. This doesn't have a hint of tomato in it and is definitely on our list of favorites! Pasta with Beef and Mushroom Sauce Total time: 25 minutes  Ingredients: 4oz (120gr) fettuccine 10oz (300gr) ground beef 6oz (180gr) cremini mushrooms, chopped 1 large onion, chopped 3 garlic cloves, minced 1 tsp … Continue reading →

Turkey and Leek Lasagne, the update

Thyme for Cooking Posted on December 3, 2012 by KateOctober 21, 2017

This weekend I cleaned the house, found the Christmas decorations, decorated the house, and baked Christmas breads (cranberry and pumpkin). After all that I needed comfort food. I could call this Three Cheese Lasagne but Turkey and Leek sounds so much healthier, doesn’t it? Turkey and Leek Lasagne Total time: 45 minutes  Ingredients: 8oz (250gr) turkey, cut into bite-size pieces 2oz (60gr) bacon, cut into strips 2 large leeks, including … Continue reading →

Chicken and Chard Lo Mein

Thyme for Cooking Posted on October 22, 2012 by KateOctober 16, 2019

The garden is done…. Well, except for the chard.  That seems to have a life of it’s own and loves the cool weather. I picked the last handful of green beans, lots of chard and raided the fridge for the rest. Chicken and Chard Lo Mein Total time: 30 minutes  Ingredients: 2 chicken breasts, about 10oz (300gr) total, cut into bite-size pieces 1 onion, quartered and sliced 2 cloves garlic, … Continue reading →

Pan-Fried Nile Perch with Capers and Lemon

Thyme for Cooking Posted on May 1, 2012 by KateJuly 15, 2018

From the person who hates fish came a request for…. Wait for it…. Fish. Mon mari has decided that, as he used to like fish, and it is good for us, perhaps he should like it again. My job, that goes without saying, is to make certain that he doesn't have any 'bad' fish to put him off during this transition period. Bad fish are fish with bones. We need … Continue reading →

Red Cabbage Redux; the update

Thyme for Cooking Posted on January 9, 2012 by KateOctober 19, 2017

Busy day, chez nous. Now that the taping and sanding and taping some more and sanding some more is done…. And the hoovering and dusting and hoovering some more and dusting some more is done…. It was time to hang wall paper. First, of course, we had a minor crisis.  Mon mari is in charge of hanging wall paper. Like painting, it was decided eons ago that my work did … Continue reading →

Mushrooms in Brown Sauce on Puff Pastry; the update

Thyme for Cooking Posted on October 3, 2011 by KateOctober 4, 2017

Did you hear cursing this past week? Mon mari was plumbing. He hates plumbing. According to him, he has enough plumbing parts to start his own store. According to him, if he needs a specific part to finish the job he never has that exact piece. He’ll have to go to the store. And the store will be closed. It will either be the 2-hour lunch closing, a half day … Continue reading →
