I have decided to break my own, self-imposed rule about using instructional photos.
There is the old adage: ‘A picture is worth ten thousand words’.
I will, however, not post my few how-to photos before the recipe.
The reason I get so irritated with bloggers who post step-by-step-by-step photos on every recipe is that they post them before the recipe. … Continue reading.....
I do not call this ‘Shrimp Scampi’ because that would be redundant.
Scampi is Italian for shrimp…. It would be calling it ‘Shrimp Shrimp’.
Like Chai (meaning tea) Tea.
Or PIN (Personal Identification Number) number.
Or ATM (Automated Teller Machine) machine
Or Queso (Spanish for cheese) cheese.
You get the point.

Having a vegetable garden (potager) is one of the most rewarding endeavors one can undertake.
It’s a lot of work for six or seven months, depending on your growing season, but being able to grow and eat your own vegetables all summer, fresh from the garden, is wonderful.

I never used any of them but it did smell nice when I was weeding.
This is spearmint and (I think) it’s the mint used in mint tea which I got hooked on in … Continue reading.....
We’ve had a breakthrough / personal epiphany / sudden realization / whatever chez nous.
Mon mari thinks he might actually like fish.
Well, he might like fish if he doesn’t have to clean it and it’s cooked perfectly and it has absolutely no bones.
It’s really the bone issue that has put him off fish. But he has (gasp!) ordered … Continue reading.....
The other day I had my first slow cooker failure.
It should have been simple.
It was soup.
How can one screw up soup?
Apparently with ease.
It was a simple premise: we were going out for lunch which I knew would be long and a lot of food. I decided soup would be perfect for dinner that night and … Continue reading.....
I recently updated the recipe index on this blog. It wasn’t the usual monthly update to add new recipes, but a totally new system that will automate it all going forward.
Naturally, it wasn’t easy.
It was supposed to be easy, but the software I was using couldn’t differentiate between a photo of the dogs playing with a dead rabbit … Continue reading.....
