Mon mari had a cold a few weeks ago. When he’s feeling ‘less than 100%’ he likes to be left alone.
For him, that means that if / when he’s hungry he’ll fix himself something to eat – usually soft-boiled eggs. If he wants something from me he’ll let me know otherwise leave him alone.
For me, that means that … Continue reading.....
I rarely buy fresh vegetables until my winter squashes are gone but I can vary our diet a bit by using pantry staples.
I always have lentils on hand, usually 3 or 4 different kinds. They don’t need soaking and cook much faster than dried beans, usually in about 20 minutes.

I had something similar to this in a restaurant in San Antonio, Texas, thus the ‘Southwestern Lentils’.

These were proper blizzards, the kind … Continue reading.....
First, a disclaimer: I was tending the stove; keeping the home fires burning and all that rot. It's been warm enough that we only light it in the evenings.
As usual, I lit the fire starter (little cubes of fuel), arranged a few logs and left it.
I'd forgotten that I'd cleaned it out this morning. Fires do not like … Continue reading.....
