Fried Tomatoes alla Romano; tomato addiction lives on

Thyme for Cooking Posted on April 27, 2012 by KateAugust 11, 2013

Fried green tomatoes meets Caprese salad with a stop off at Vitello Romano. Or something like that…. Okay, so it's not an Italian recipe – but it would be if they'd thought of it….   Supermarket tomatoes work well for this.   Nice, juicy vine-ripened tomatoes (sigh…) really aren't the thing for frying. Fried Tomatoes alla Romano  Preparation and cooking time: 15 minutes  Ingredients: 2 large red tomatoes  a bit firm … Continue reading →

Caprese Salad with Gnocchi; eating packaged foods

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 21, 2011 by KateNovember 4, 2017

A long time ago, in a place far, far away, in another life, I went to a restaurant show. Not the kind of restaurant show for the general public; the kind of restaurant show for people whose business was restaurants:  People who sold to, bought for, managed or owned restaurants. The one fact that I remember from that show was: if a restaurant (not a Michelin starred restaurant) has more … Continue reading →

Chicken Breasts Stuffed with Mozzarella and Basil; French Paperwork

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 12, 2011 by KateAugust 11, 2013

Okay, here's a photo of mon mari's clean and tidy barn. It's been like this all of one day and it won't last. but we have a photo record of it. The toilet is not an integral part – it will be installed in the upstairs bathroom (soon, I hope). Now on to the important news: our Titre de Sejour. We did not tread an easy path to getting our … Continue reading →

Asparagus, Ham and Cherry Tomato Quiche; the updates

Thyme for Cooking Posted on June 6, 2011 by KateOctober 23, 2017

We are not quite back to normal yet…. But, then again, with these two in our lives, we may never be normal. I’m not sure how I managed to get them both sitting.  They normally look like this: Mon mari is recovering from a bug kindly donated to the family, but, never fear, work is proceeding. Our son decided he’d really like to paint our house! (right…) It’s customary to … Continue reading →

Pizza Quiche; buying tires can be tricky

Thyme for Cooking Posted on April 6, 2011 by KateOctober 23, 2017

We're driving to Italy in May for a family reunion.  We thought it might be fun to have new, good tires for the trip. As I'm trying to keep mon mari's nose to the grindstone I volunteered to do the sitting and waiting whilst the tires were put on. Some of the family is coming to our house before we leave for Italy, and more are coming back with us, … Continue reading →

Lasagne with Fresh Tomato Sauce, Basil and Mozzarella; the update

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 13, 2010 by KateOctober 12, 2017

Mon mari wanted me to tell you that he had to cut, rout, sand, glue and nail over 250 pieces of wood to make the drawers and doors for this cabinet. I think he intended that statement to excuse the fact that it isn’t done. It’s almost done…. The doors need to be hung and it needs to be painted.  It just has the primer on now. We had enough … Continue reading →
