Grilled Scallops on Avocado Sauce

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 16, 2012 by KateJuly 7, 2019

We love scallops but don’t have them often. They’re a wee bit expensive. But, as they are also a wee bit rich, one doesn’t need a lot of them for a satisfying dish. The avocado sauce would work well with grilled shrimp or fish as well. Or pasta or burgers or…. For the other half of the avocado, simply put it cut side down on a plate and refrigerate.  It … Continue reading →

Scallop and Saffron Risotto

Thyme for Cooking Posted on November 17, 2010 by KateOctober 9, 2017

It has been a week of French challenges. First – the funny… We go to a conversation class every week.  The idea is that the French speak English and the English / Americans speak French and the native speakers assist and correct the learners. The other night one of the students was telling a story about her recent trek in the Himalayas. Anyone who has ever studied another language knows … Continue reading →

In all that reading, over all these years I have never fully understood what these people had to go through to stay warm. I understood it on an intellectual level. I knew they had to chop wood or … Continue reading →

Grilled Scallops and Prosciutto on Tarragon Cream; It’s all in the name..

Thyme for Cooking Posted on September 21, 2008 by KateAugust 19, 2013

Grilled Scallops and Prosciutto Katie's Collection of Confusing Kitchen words. We need to speak two foreign languages to get by here: French and British. Stove:  A large appliance, usually black, that burns wood to heat the house.  This is not to be confused with a Cooker: A large appliance, usually white, used in the preparation of food. A Stove can also cook food, but only if it burns wood and … Continue reading →

Octopi and other delicacies….that I won’t eat

Thyme for Cooking Posted on May 26, 2006 by KateAugust 10, 2013

I grew up in the Midwestern U.S…..and I have never figured out why the world refers to those 5 states (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and both Dakotas) as the 'Midwest' when they are so obviously 'Midnorth'…there is nothing western about them!  I digress.  The only water critters we had access to for dinner were what we could catch in the Mississippi: sunfish, crappies (pronounced 'crahpies' …not the other way, although, taste-wise, … Continue reading →
