Sautéed Courgette (Zucchini) with Balsamic Vinegar; Hobs & Ovens

Thyme for Cooking Posted on June 28, 2008 by Katie ZellerOctober 16, 2017

Gas or Electric?

It was really, really close but gas hob with electric oven won by 18 votes.

Induction got 1 vote.

Electric trailed induction by a wide margin.

The reason I like best came from another expat living in France:

When the power goes out one can still eat – using the gas cook top (hob).

When you forget … Continue reading.....

Pickled Beets

The problem with not having mosquitoes is that without them, there is no compelling reason to have screen doors.

One still leaves the heavy, wooden doors open when the weather is nice but, without screen doors, the outside has a disconcerting habit of coming inside.

Last summer we had a snake in the pantry.  Not a poisonous, little … Continue reading.....

Lemon Spinach and Chicken Salad; Pain??? Gain???

Thyme for Cooking Posted on April 5, 2008 by Katie ZellerOctober 21, 2017

Lemon Spinach and Chicken Salad

Long, long ago, in a place far, far away I was fit; in decent shape, as it were.

I did it the easy way.

I went to a spa, twice a year, and beat my body into submission.

My days at the spa went something like this:

Asparagus and Ham Quiche; Too Much Information

Thyme for Cooking Posted on March 31, 2008 by Katie ZellerJanuary 30, 2019

The South Africans are after me!

Yes, not just one, but two, lovely ladies from South Africa have made the mistake of asking for more information about little, old me…..

African Vanielje from Vanielje Kitchen and Jeanne from CookSister have tagged me for a meme to divulge little known facts about moi!

They have no idea what they may have … Continue reading.....

Braised Sunchokes; a Multitude of Memes; Hi, my name is Moonbeam

Braised Sunchokes

Continuing on with catching up:

The memes:

1. The Expatriate Chef tagged me with this "Memoir Meme".  It is based on a bet Hemingway made that he could sum up his life in six words.

As it has always been a challenge for me to use fewer rather than more words, I accepted the challenge.

Ten words, was … Continue reading.....

Courgette (Zucchini) Soup; and Inherited Pack Rat Tendencies

Thyme for Cooking Posted on February 10, 2008 by Katie ZellerAugust 27, 2018

I'm a pack rat.  I save things, in case I might need it some day.  I like to have a full pantry and a full freezer.  I don't like to throw things out.

It's not my fault, though.  It's genetic.  My father was a pack rat.

He loved working with wood in his spare time; building … Continue reading.....

In Celebration of the Legume: Lentils, Two Ways, and…something else…

Gilli, from So So Simple Food,  sent me a hilarious account of how some of us can be terribly busy all day long and end up with less done than we started with.

It reminds me of an old saying: "The Hurrier I go the Behinder I get!"

Part of it can be attributed to … Continue reading.....
