We are finally eating vegetables from our potager (veggie garden).
Okay, we are eating 1 vegetable. I don’t really count the lettuce.
The chard is ready to pick. It even survived the hail storm we had the other day. Just a few holey leaves is all.
We’ve had 2 hailstorms in the last few weeks. And 3 heat waves.
No further comment on the weather… what’s the point?
The chard is good. I planted a different variety this year. It has very thin white stems and long, tender leaves. It seems less bitter than others types I’ve planted. Luckily, the seed company saves my orders so I can get it again next year.

Easiest way to chop chard: Stack the leaves together and fold over, the long way. Cut in half then slice into thin strips, about 1/2″ (1cm) using both leaves and stems.

Hector had a traumatic day yesterday.
He went to the vet.
Nothing serious, just the annual vaccinations, but anything strange is traumatic for Hector.
He was okay in the car but, when we got him out he pulled the leash in every direction at once.
I would tell him to sit and he would. He would sit for about a minute, crying and whining, before he jumped up and started pulling again.
We were staying outside of the vet’s office because there were 2 other dogs and a cat inside.
Other human finally took over Hector so I could go in the office and make my presence known for our appointment.
A few minutes later he brought Hector in to me.
Hector wanted to sniff one of the other dogs – the big one.
The dog growled.
Hector laid down next to me and stayed there while we waited…. for almost an hour.
He didn’t move, didn’t shake, didn’t cry. He was quiet.
When it was our turn I dragged him into the exam room.
He immediately laid down and was a calm, quiet, good dog for the exam and the shots.
The vet was impressed at how well he behaved.
I have no idea what happened or how to make it happen again.
Obviously, someone switched dogs.
