Summer brings a huge variety of colorful veggies.
At the moment, my potager isn’t producing anything. The lettuce is finished (pulled the last of it today) and the chard, beans, summer squash, and sweet corn are a long way from being productive.
The markets, however, are bursting with color.
Even though one rarely sees them as a proper ‘side’, onions and peppers are vegetables.
Healthy & delicious, too.

- Cook in an oiled grill basket or mat on the barbecue grill for 4 – 6 minutes per side, depending on how you like them done.
- For Peppers and Onions:
- Put olive oil, paprika, and Worcestershire in large bowl, add vegetables and toss well to coat.
- Put on a mesh grill pan and cook on the barbecue grill, until tender, about 10 minutes.
Notes
Sauté the burgers in a skillet for the same amount of time, until done to your liking.
Use a mesh basket or grate for the veggies so as not to have them fall through into the fire or sauté in a skillet until tender and starting to brown. Either way they will take 10 – 15 minutes.

So many people are happy that the temps have warmed and there’s abundant sunshine. These people like summer.
When we lived in Andorra I loved summer. I went on 3 or 4 hour walks in the mountains once or twice a week, I played golf 2 or 3 times a week, met friends for lunch… I enjoyed summer. The other 3 seasons were nice as well.
I didn’t have a garden.
I spend an hour every morning watering… I stagger it so I don’t have to do it all at once. Then it’s 2 or 3 hours of the routine stuff: hoeing, weeding, mowing, trimming, etc.
That’s 4 hours of free time starting in late fall through the winter.
I even clean the house occasionally!
Is it any wonder that I like winter? (Except for the cold…)
